Amina Hussain

From the Big Four to the businesses on our doorstep

Amina qualified as an accountant and spent eight years in KPMG's Corporate Restructuring department, working as an accountant and insolvency specialist. It taught her how large organisations expect to be served — and how rarely small businesses get the same standard.

In 2012 she left to build a practice that would close that gap. SME Outsourcing was founded on a simple promise: corporate-level accounting, taxation and advisory support, delivered personally, for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.

What she does for clients

Amina specialises in forensic accounting, taxation and practice accounting, and she still leads client work herself. In her own words: “My key objective is to provide the appropriate and targeted support SMEs to meet their taxation requirements and their expectations to deliver their business growth needs. My mission, passion and drive is to ensure that my clients are fully satisfied with the services we provide here, at SME Outsourcing.”

During the pandemic she offered a voluntary service to local businesses, helping them claim furlough support, business loans and grants.

Building a group, not just a practice

The firm has grown well beyond its accountancy roots. In 2023 SME Outsourcing merged with Sonex Accountancy, and Amina co-founded SME Financial Services Ltd — an Appointed Representative of New Leaf Distribution Ltd, authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority — to advise on mortgages, protection and commercial finance. SME Training Academy delivers nationally recognised VTCT (Skillsfirst) qualifications with local college partners.

That training arm now reaches people the jobs market often leaves behind. Under a Learning Curve contract with the West Midlands Combined Authority, SME Outsourcing has supported long-term unemployed adults into security roles across the region, and in 2026 every trainee on its hospitality programme with Walsall Football Club received a job offer.

This programme was created to provide genuine opportunities for people who may have previously struggled to find employment. I am incredibly proud that every trainee received a job offer. A voice for Birmingham's business community

Amina served as Co-President of the Asian Business Chamber of Commerce, part of the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, until March 2023 — the first British-Bangladeshi woman to hold the presidency. She is Global Vice-President of the Greater Birmingham Global Chamber of Commerce and a member of The Leaders Council of Great Britain and Ireland, where she takes part in round-table discussions heard at a parliamentary level.

In 2024 she was appointed the first CEO of the Asian Business Board, a British Heart Foundation partnership set up to raise awareness and research funding for heart and circulatory disease in South Asian communities, and in 2023 she was appointed a trustee of Round Table Children's Wish, a charity that grants wishes for seriously ill children.

Mentoring the next generation

Having worked for large corporate firms such as KPMG has given Amina a clear picture of what employers expect. She mentors school, college and university leavers, provides guidance and work-experience support, and works with West Midlands colleges and apprenticeship organisations on bespoke programmes in accounting, finance, administration and ICT skills.
